Another event has come to a close for Friends of Figma, a community group for creatives using or interested in learning Figma, a design and collaboration tool for professionals and students alike. The Cincinnati chapter is relatively new, forming in early 2022, and we’re excited to see how it grows from here.
Our July event, hosted at Somerset in OTR, included a happy hour and a short talk from AGNT’s own Patrick Haney and Jenna Marino. The presentation, Figma + NFTs, included an overview of what non-fungible tokens are and how they’re currently being used. Patrick & Jenna touched on just some of the reasons to create and collect NFTs:
- Ownership
- Authenticity
- Ticketing
- Engagement
- Loyalty
Jenna & Patrick provided a firsthand look at the process of creating generative art in Figma, from turning layered compilations into components to using variants for NFT attributes. Figma streamlines this process and makes it simple to preview what the layered artwork will look like once generated.
Afterwards, Patrick & Jenna touched on exporting to an NFT creation platform such as Bueno directly from the Figma components, adjusting rarity, and testing the generative process using AGNT’s work on the MKE.NYC NFT project as an example.
Figma’s components and variants are perfect for generative art. They translate directly to the layers and attributes needed when creating an NFT collection.

Attendees of this month’s Friends of Figma Cincinnati event were able to claim a free Proof-of-Attendance NFT known as a POAP by simply tapping their phones to the Friends of Figma logo on our event signage. Anyone without a crypto wallet was able to reserve their NFT via email and claim it at a later time.

NFTs in the Cov
At AGNT, we’re always looking for ways to incorporate technology with community, and NFTs provide a unique opportunity to bridge that gap.
Patrick & Jenna’s presentation concluded with a bit about AGNT’s contribution to the NKY Bourbon Barrel Walk project, an interactive art piece in the Mainstrasse Village area of Covington. Find the barrel, tap your phone to the top, and mint a free NFT that will take you on a special “mission” through Mainstrasse. Complete your mission and you may receive a free bourbon, on us.
